Hey, I'm looking for an inexpensive infrared reciver that can connect to the infrared header on a motherboard. The only thing the I was able to find was something that filled a drive bay and had an infrared reciever on it. I'm just looking for the reciever, thanks for any help. :)

(BTW, if I'm posting this in the wrong section please move it, thanks.)

Well I made one before that hooked up to the serial port, and it was kind of a pain to run the wire out the back of the computer in order to connect it, then run the wire to the front panel to mount it. I thought it would just be eaiser to just buy one that connected directly to the IR header internally. That way I don't have to go through the trouble of building one and no messy drivers to deal with either. Thanks for the tip though.

I see that you have an Asus A7N8X, so this might be what you need. However, it's a Canadian store, so I'm not sure if they ship to the US.

You could also ask Asus for any information on companies that sell the IrDA module in the United States.

A little off topic here, but, I too built a serial ir receiver that i use to control winamp and the like and it works great but like you said the cable sucks so i'd like to use my mobos header. What software can use the irda header ont he mobo with a remote? i was under the impression that this header was only good for transfering stuff between like laptops and PDAs and cell phones? Any info would be great.

sorry about the thread jack
