Try manually assigning yourself an IP address. It's probable that the DHCP server on the smoothwall has either died, or has been misconfigured. Find out what settings it would have given you, and use them:
IP Address: [something in the same subnet as your router, i.e. 192.168.0.50 if the smoothwall is 192.168.0.1]
Subnet Mask: [same as smoothwall box, e.g. 255.255.255.0]
Gateway: [smoothwall box's IP]
DNS Server: [smoothwall box's IP]

Another possibility is that the "internal" network card isn't configured correctly (i.e. missing a driver)

both cards *seem* to be autoconfigured correctly, im not sure how to manually install the drivers for them, but during setup, they're both "found" and i set one for the red and one for the green connection obviously...

as for the manually assigning myself an address, i haven't tried that. so you're saying to turn off DHCP? where would i go to assign a specific IP for my computers if i dont have DHCP turned on? i have about 10 computers in the house on various switches...

thanks for all the help su root!

Astaro used to be free, but a while ago they started charging. What you probably have, and what you can freely download, is a 30-day free trial.

You don't need to turn off DHCP per se, you can just use a static IP address on one PC to see if the box is working.

You would click start/settings/network & dialup connections. Right click Local Area Connection, properties. Then select TCP/IP in the box, and click properties. Then you can enter the information manually by selecting "Use the following IP address".
