Okay, I'm new to this whole overclocking thing and I'm new to *really* fiddling with the guts of my machine. I can add devices, remove them, etc, but... yeah. Anyway, so if this is the wrong forum, or I don't provide enough information to let you know what I'm trying to do, just ask. I openly admit to being an idiot. :)

Anyway, for my birthday I'm getting $100. The only thing I want is to upgrade my machine, so, I figure I can do at least -something- with that cash.

Right now I have a Dell, its a P3 600.. I think, more specifically (I don't know if this is needed info or not, but this is what SiSoft tells me) its a P6K (Katmai) Pentium III (B) 450-600 2-2.05V.

What I want, is to spend that $100 on a new case and mobo. I'd like both to have very good potential for overclocking. I'm *mostly* concerned with the motherboard, which is why I posted here.

So, is this possible -- and if so, how high can I possibly get and with what motherboard? (And then, if you have a preference on case, just.. let me hear it.)

Thanks in advance. :)

Look for a board that will allow you to adjust the FSB in 1Mhz increments up to at least 166Mhz, Vcore in 0.05v up to 2.5v and general voltage adjust for RAM and AGP. This board gives a pretty good indication of what you should look for. I hope I see right in that you have a Slot 1 Katmai, otherwise if you have a Socket 370 this is a good indicator as well. Hope it helps!

You might want to reconsider trying to overclock this processor. It is a katmai with a large L2 cache, 512kb to be specific, and are not good overclockers at all. Even if you get a mobo that can overclock well you still have the chip that won't. If you just want a good slot one board, and will upgrade the processor later then I would go with an abit board.
