I got like 11500 in 3dmark2001 with a 9800np, 512 333ddr, and an xp2200. Thats only 3000 more then the same PC with a ti4200.

Shouldnt this be higher?

My 3dmark2003 score seemed alright, scoring at 4300 though.

Go into the disp proprties and make sure that AA and AF are turned off before you run your bench marks. And make sure that Vsinc is also turned off.

Both scores are low, although I haven't run 2001 with my 9800Pro I did get over 13,000 with a 9700Pro long ago with the cat 2.4s or something. I scored 5320 in 2003 at default clock speeds for the card (also quality settings were left at default, no AA or AF though) with my CPU running at 1740MHz and FSB at 150. An XP2200 is slightly faster then my CPU even at default settings, although if you are running it at 133FSB it will affect your scores a bit but not as much as what you are getting.

Make sure you are running the cat 3.9s, try updating your chipset drivers and make sure there isn't much running in the background. You could also try to tweak your RAM settings in the BIOS.

Ok, I installed motherboard drivers. It installed 3 things. 2 of them I dont know of, but one was AGP3.0, and it allowed me to have AGP texture acceleration, which was greyed out before.

I have been running my games for like 6 months with it greyed out. I thought it was just unsupported by my old card. :(

A bit faster. That got me up to 12300. That isnt much of an increase, so I assume its still low, but I do have different drivers then most people. I installed the hotfix for call of duty to stop it from locking up, and it wasnt just a fix. It came with drivers, and a control panel, so I dont know what version of catalyst it came with. Maybe these are lowering my performance a bit. They might not have as much performance just because of code, but also they have options that the 3.7 catalyst I had, dont have. The 3.8 or 9's might not have them either, so maybe those are lowering it.
It has fast write, smartgart, TRUFORM, and smartshader options.

Anyone have around a non overclocked xp2200, and a non overclocked 9800np, with scores I can compare to?

I thought ATi cards werent supposed to take a hit from those features turned on.

drexel, I would say its your cpu holding you back... fsb is low. I get 15,133 in 2k1 with the sys in the sig.

I think you might be able to compare on the site where it shows your results after you publish them online.

Isn't the 9700pro stronger than the plain 9800? I guess that would explain the 1k difference in the score.

Steven, what is ou 2k1 score with all your settings optimized? What about 2k3?

also you may have a problem with directx 9 and 3dmark 2001. it can give you a lower score. Mine was 2k lower than it was when I ran my system with directx 8.1 so that is another possibility.

you should give us a complete run down of your system. my xp 1600+ with this motherboard and 9800 np at stock pulled in just over 14000 points. so 14000 points at 1.4 ghz and a stock 9800... there is something wrong me thinks.
at best, I have to ask if you reformated completely. but then again, if you have a via chipset. thats why... my kt4 ultra with this card gave me like... 13 somthing where my nf7s gave me the immidiate 16000 like out of the box.

definatly need details. numbers. and the like.

there are a number of problems associated with ati and via gart it would seem. some people say to uninstall the 4in1 drivers. buuuut you kinda need these. somthing i know will work is if you use catalyst version 3.6. it runs games stable but your benchmarks will suffer.

I had a kt400 based msi and my roomate has the same board you do. both had problems with catalyst 3.7, crashing as soon as the games started, or benchmarking really low. If you run cat 3.6, it will work, probably decent enough untill you move platorms.

one thing you dont want to do on the via, is run down to 4x agp. that will choke your card horribly. Games like homeworld 2 have a fix in catalyst 3.10..... buuuut any version of catalyst beyond 3.6 is unstable.

if you didnt reformat when you got the 9800, or cleanly remove the drivers with a detonator removal tool, you could try that with a clean install. might help some.

but yea. catalyst 3.6 will work from my experience. ati hates via.

Your just system limitied, NOT gpu limited.

3DM01 is a system bench.

If you think your GPU or drivers are an issue, run 3DM03, it's a GPU bench, and the rest of your system is pretty much taken out of the equation:)
