M.2 heatsink

Appreciate all of your help! This is a photo of the heatsink with the protective plastic on it. Thinking about maybe trying a third party heatsink but it appears they use rubber rings to keep them in place? Not a fan of that TBH.

Rubber things keep babies away, not M.2 sinks?

I think the rubber was supposed to under the M.2, not really sure I haven't used them :D

No rubber with my Thermalright sinks.
 
So, unless I missed it/someone saying it... in order for the Gigabyte heatsink to work on that drive, you'll need to peel off the heatsink and its thermal pad from the M.2. From the images earlier, you installed it with that on. Those mm will matter when it comes to fitment.

EDIT: Or... run it like that.. I'm sure you'll be fine.

The stock M.2 heatsinks on my mobo fit perfectly fine. I did have to replace the thermal gum sticks, but aside from that, they do a decent job. I'm using WD SN850 drives. And even tho my gpu has a block on it, the heat that comes off that sucker does heat up the top M2 drive a tad, but nothing of major concern. My drives never throttle, or have I seen them throttle.


Maybe replacing the thermal gum on those?
 
I have a bunch of these I started using before the mobo's came with their own heatsinks, and they worked great. :cool:

 
I'm not sure we are all on the same page. Whoever is advocating for no additional heat-sync, I'm with you. This NVMe has a heat-sync. It's not the largest or most aggressive looking heat-sync but it is there from the manufacturer. I'd just go with that and leave it be. If not, then I'd say to remove that one and install the one on the MB. If you really want to go all out, you'd still need to remove the heat-sync that came with the drive and then you could install any heat-sync that you like. For me, I'd consider my options in the following order:

1) Use the current heat-sync only
2) Remove the current heat-sync and use the one on the MB
3) Remove the current one and use a 3rd party heat-sync

ME! I'M the one advocating "no additional heatsink."
