Just as an FYI, wireless networks are not my forte . . .

My sisters live in an apartment and have a MS base station (I'd have preferred Netgear or Linksys, but what can I do . . .). One has a Mac, one a PC. The Mac gets very poor reception and drops connections on what is probably a daily basis, which really upsets my sister. She calls me at 12AM when I'm in Boston at school and asks me to help her fix it over the phone . . . But my point is, the PC never drops a connection, but it's also closer to the base station. Is the dropped connection due to reception or the fact that it's a Mac? Is it an incompatibility with the base station?

I understand that it's pretty illogical that the reason could be the make of the computer, since routers can't tell the difference between Macs and PCs, but I want to make absolutely sure that it's not an incompatibility, because my other sister is getting an apartment with a friend and needs a wireless base station as well . . . Both of them have Macs, and they want Apple's new Airport Express, but it's not coming out for a month, and they're moving in four days or so . . . If I go out and get them a Linksys or Netgear 802.11g router (keeping in mind that one of them has g, one of them has b), will I run into these problems? I'd feel like a real jerk if it happens again.

Thanks

yeah get the linksys with both b adn g. Mac are the 54g protocol so you should be fine.

Thanks for the reply. For some reason, my profile never suggested that anybody responded . . . happens every once in a while. Sorry it took so long to get back to it.

I just needed to make sure it wasn't anybody's computer or network gear . . .

Regards
