I just installed an Thermalright AX-7 with a Delta 80x38 SHE (68 cfm) and IT IS LOUD. I MEAN REALLY LOUD! I mean I was expecting it to be loud, but certainly not THIS LOUD! Suddenly a vacuum cleaner seems way underpowered :D

As far as temps go though, I saw a huge improvement. I had a GlobalWin WBK fitted with a 80x25 ~40 cfm Sunnon and with Sandra burn-in (cpu arithmetic and mm tests only) running for 30 mins, I had:

- Room T = 20 C
- CPU T = 57 C
- M/B T = 22 C

Now with the AX-7 and the Delta 80x38 SHE:

- Room T = 20 C
- CPU T = 38 C
- M/B T = 17 C (lousy way to measure m/b temp, the reading comes from the northgate which is just next to the cpu socket and I guess the increased airflow messes with it)

Oh well, I guess it's rheostat time...

PS for anyone with an A7V266: The AX-7 was blocked by a capacitor which is next to the socket (as I figured in another post), so I had to trim it a bit. A 2-3 mm corner cut is sufficient for it to clear the capacitor. I will hopefully post some pic of it, but then again, I always say that :) Work and deadlines come first, unfortunatelly...

I am considering that same fan OR its big brother (5700rpm 52.4dba 80cfm) on an Alpha 8942.....
I've ran the Delta 7K 60mm before is the one you have louder than that!?!? The 7K had a "very high" pitch to it.

Later!

Has anyone tried either a 68CFM or 80CFM Delta with a reostat?

I wanted to use one paired with the AX-7 on my 8KHA+. I want a 38MM high fan on my HS, but I don't want the noise! ...well not to much I can take about 40DBs before jumping out the window.

I've seen a Swiftech reostat for 4 pin connectors that drops the RPMs to between 3600 and 4600, can a Delta EHE run at those RPMs?

Only 40 dBA? What do you run, emmersion cooling? I dont' think that there is a cooling fan that registers under 55 dBA.

I don't mean the DB rating with tests, but the ones that are usually listed in specs. My current fan spec is 36DB and thats OK. I've seen a 39DB 53CFM fan and thats about as much as I can take running constatly. I often run my PC 24/7 and it lives in my bedroom, so I do sometimes need to sleep.

But I really wanted to use a 38MM high fan for cooling my HS, and I would really appreciate and info on reostat limits and working conditions.

try going with a larger fan. I prefer 120mm but a 92mm will be a lot better than those 80mm screamers.
