Took the 4th spot today... Just a hop away from taking 3rd, and a skip to 2nd. Taking 1st will be a massive jump however... I might have to reconsider my position on buying top end GPUs to take 1st but I'm not focused on that just yet.

I'm baking some old cards that have burnt out a bit from previous runs - hopefully one or two of those will come back to their previous glory. Running another 8800 series card I haven't ran yet but it isn't volt-modded. Then I have to figure out how I'm going to scrounge up the rest of the points I need...

It's getting a lot harder though. I need at least 19 hardware points to beat my previous top 20 hardware scores, and at least 16 global points to beat my previous top 15 global scores. For 3D I am only competitive globally in 3dm01 and aquamark, the rest of the benches require stronger GPUs than I own. A 960T could help me in 2D globals, but I'm pretty tapped out for globals overall. I really need to get a lot more cups to improve my hardware points, that is the biggest opportunity to improve right now.

A 580 would take your 3d01 globals to the moon, probably worthwhile. Especially as you can get some serious 3d01 globals without even taking the 580's cooler off.

I had not considered that... Buy a 580, run it on air with stock cooler, sell it.

That could be a really good option. Thanks for mentioning it. Usually my GPUs aren't in good selling condition when I'm done so it hadn't crossed my mind.

A stock cooled 7970 can do a lot of damage when paired with a good CPU too.
For example I managed 14.4k 3d11 with my IB at only 4.6GHz and a GBT 7970OC on the stock cooler and very reasonable voltage.
That was... 15 globals?

That 7970 sounds attractive as well, but I think I'll push the 7000 series off a ways... The 580 is especially attractive because it has maxed out hardware points (50 for 1st place), which is something I always look for in GPUs as that makes all the lower rankings on the card more valuable as well.

The 580 would be huge - it can get big globals in 3d01, aqua, and 3d05. It can also get big hardware points in every 3D bench, if I were to LN2 it. The 7970 is worth good globals, but its hardware points are still really weak. Good globals+good hardware points means one good submission can be really big for league rankings - one 01 and one aquamark scores are worth 100 points in league ranking alone, due to the combination of hardware/globals.

Grabbed 2 3770K's at microcenter. Had to pay full price on the 2nd one. First was $312 with tax, second was $387. First chip is 3218B957, second is 3218B958.
