Hey guys I'm having a huge problem with my X800 Pro.

I recently built a new system (got parts in different shipments and got to try my x800 out in my old computer last week - worked absolutely great).

So I install new system and boot and I get an error saying my power cable isn't plugged into the video card.

Yet it is...

So I try different power cables from all over the cpu... NOTHING.

SO I take my bro's video card and 9800xt and slap it into my machine... BAM works perfectly.

What in the WORLD. It worked perfectly last week and it sat in the box for a week...

I'm thinking perhaps the molex connection ON the card may have become loose?

Or I dunno.

Please someone give me some help. I've been trouble shooting this for 5 hours how and my head is starting to hurt... plus damn sapphire isn't open on the weekends to tech support for me.

Pleeease help me. :bang head

Um.

Since my bro's video card works perfectly on my powersupply mobo... I would imagine that I would get the exact same results if I put my X800 on his mobo.

Someone please help.

Still, best to try it in another computer, if possible. If it does work in another computer, I would guess your psu is to blame. (tho it does look like a good one) If it doesn't...its rma time.

mmm.

Still looking for more in depth then this.

Anyone heard of similar problems? I still suspect molex connector onboard card is wonked or such.

Keep in mind this card worked last week perfectly.

sounds like something must have happened in that week docta? try it in your bro's computer again. if it doesn't work there get it rma'ed.

that's the weird thing bro. I put it back in it's original box waiting until my new case came in...

it's been sitting in protective covering inside it's original box...

Only thing I could imagine was my bro yanking on the power cord to pull it out of the molex connector on the video card when we removed it last week.

Siiiiigh I guess I'll get it ready to get RMA'd if no one has any magical ideas.

I hate waiting.

i had the same problem before, the comp would poweroff and that message would show up. so i rma the card.

Almost the same problem with a BBA 9800 Pro. This is my 2nd BBA. It has always been a little flakey compared to the first. Occasionally, I would get the no power cord error. In the last few weeks I started having lock-up problems. When restarting I would get the error. Yesterday, same thing. I unplugged the power connector a few times and replugged, still no go. Finally even tried another cord. Still nothing. When it finally booted the screen was garbled, all kinds of colored fonts in the POST screen. This card is less than 6 months old. Unfortunately, I have added ramsinks and a VGA Cooler, so RMA is out of the question. I went ahead and ordered another 9800Pro but this time it is the MSI version. Much better stock cooling and I won't have to mod it. I am getting tired of buying 9800 Pro's.

I just got my RMA approved and it's being sent back tommorow morning.

Geez I hope they hurry with it.

I had the same problem with my 9800Pro....the red power wire (in the molex) had shorted out on the card. In fact the white molex had started to melt and turn brown from the short. I replaced the cable and now everything is fine.

Unplug the molex cable from your card and inspect the card mounted end of the molex....and check for melting or any discoloration.....hope that helps.

I checked all of that - I think I saw your post from an earlier date with the problem.

None of that on there.

I'm now using the EXACT SAME power cable that didn't work for the x800 on my brother's 9800xt and it's working perfectly...

Blah.

I had a similar problem with my 9800 Pro. Have you done any modding to it of any kind? Bios flashing? anything? This could play a role.

Otherwise, it is definitely something on the card. It's a kind of cold-boot thing. I had this problem with my Infinity and my 9800 Pro. I knew my PSU isn't to blame, but I would turn on the computer and it would give me the "power cord not connected" message and a siren would go off. So I checked the connections, waited a moment, and then it powered up with no problem.

This may or may not apply to you, and if you have an RMA I guess it doesn't matter, but I just thought I'd share my end of it.

Odie :)
