Greetings all

I have an old PC I want to upgrade, it has a ABIT KN8-Ultra Main Board that supports AMD athlon 64/64FX Dual Core Socket 939 CPUs, I would like to replace the current single core CPU with a dual core CPU. In the Main Board manual it states the following "Supports AMD athlon 64/64FX Dual Core 939-pin K8 CPU with 2GHz system bus using hyper transport Technology".

My question is, what is the largest CPU I can use with this main board, I am currently looking at the following:

AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200+ 939 Dual Core (2.2Ghz I think?); and

AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+ Dual Core Socket 939, Toledo (2.0Ghz I think?).

Can I use either of these CPUs? Can I use a larger one? Does the 2Ghz system bus mean the largest processor I can use is the 3800+ duo at 2.0Ghz?

Thanks

Bitec

Bluefalcon and Tom, thanks for the help, problem solved. I think I'll go for the FX60. To think I was going to settle for the 3800+.....

Noticed your thread late.

If you can find one inexpensively, the socket 939 FX 60 runs at 2.6 stock and has the unlocked multiplier. I believe that your board will also support the Opertron (business class) processors. Lots of people had very good luck with them.

My toledo core x2 4400 is 2.2 stock and my 24/7 OC on it is 2860 (260 x 11) with no added voltage (boards lowest setting at 1.35). I use the AN8-32x by abit.

Watch your memory, Abit boards can be really picky about it.

As always, I would refer you to this thread (It is the one that helped me) http://www.overclockers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=391768

Have fun!
