I can't get my plextor 16x12x24 burner to work also toshiba dvd player will not work.
both say
file:/mnt/cdrom You do not have access rights to this location.

How do i change it think it has something to do with root dir.

you need to log in as the root user and change the permissions on the /mnt/*** folder so that you can use it as a regular user...i think that should solve the problem but i don't know since that's never happened to me.

that might not solve it. The standrad answer to this problem is to look at /dev/hdc (or whatever your cdrom and dvd player are) you can find out in /etc/mtab. and make sure those are world read/writeable. and in your /etc/mtab, make sure regular users can access them (read the man page, it involes putting the word "user" somewhere)

What exactly are you trying to do here? cd into /mnt/cdrom and do an ls? copy a file there? mount a drive there?

mdk cdrom

I found them root protected in file manager root dir file :/mnt The two cd rom drives are protected , floppy and zip drive not. Still can't change to user at a lost to remove the lock.
floppy and zip are mountable.

I remember having a similar problem like this, where i couldn't access my CD drives (both SCSI), i think it was partially due to a wrong module being loaded, as well as the drives being mismounted... Checking the kernel may help w/ DVD issues, a friend of mine's wouldn't work until he had recompiled to include some DVD options. and setting the drives to supermount as the file system may work too.

re cdrom

I gave up and reformated started over now my burner works dvd still not working but think its a minor problem.
Thanks all for the help
