I dont know how many of you participate in the prime seach but i do and you may or may not find this intresting

40th mersenne prime ( makeing it the biggest btw)

Just some magic about [2^(20996011)]-1

Number of digits = [log 10 / log 2]* 20996011

= 6,320,429

Wow that's a big number!

Holy sweet mother thats a large number. Just currious, whats the importance of prime numbers?

Thats 1258 pages if number, no commas.

it depends how you look at it

i would liken it to finding a mathmatical 4 leaf clover

all and all it doesnt do you to much its intresting to find

however they are usefull in number theory and for encription and certian other types of mathmaticaly driven theory

  • Every integer can be written as the product of primes.
  • All primes above 2 are odd
Um, that's all I could think of atm :p

The other cool thing about maths is you can't copyright it, which is why i'm happy to store the 40th mersenne prime on my website :)
