Hi guys,

I was trying to find out how good a couple of boards are, one is a Chaintech 7VJDA, the other is a Gigabyte model, dang, mislaid the model info right now, but it's the KT266A one with the SB128 onboard. Anyway, at Tom's hardware, the Chaintech comes high in the results in the KT266A roundup review and the gigabyte comes low. In AnandTech's KT266A roundup the gigabyte comes high and the Chaintech comes in low.

What do you think is going on? Did Tom get a tweaked chaintech and a lemon gigabyte or what?????

I get that a lot. When I got my printer, I read a bunch of reviews on it and some gave it 2 stars, and others gave it 5. Weird.

the best idea is to check lots of reviews and then see what the general trend seems to be
toms,anandtech,HardOCP
and finally check the forums, nothing beats hands on experiences

no dont look at toms..... i heard they are biased and get paid off or something? anyone else know more on this?

I heard the same thing, but I don't know any more than that.

Ill third that heard um rumors yeah rumors about Tom... You should just post and people come pooring in to tell you their experiences, I honestly trust the forum more then the reviews. Although those are useful readings too!!

Damn, really? I kinda trusted him after how he went at intel about P3 stability over 1Ghz and etc. Thought that took more guts than the Cnet or Zdnet hacks have, they are badly biased.

I think I might have figured why the Gigabyte was different in those two reviews anyhow, for one thing Anandtechs was running a mhz faster it seems, for another I guess Tom's screwed up the bios and ran the stock one instead of the latest release.

Anyway, might be a moot point about those two boards anyway, since I spotted a KT333 board at a good price, a Gigabyte GA7VRX. Gotta go look that one out now.

As far as user impressions go, hardly anyone here seems to use gigabytes or chaintechs. I've asked before. Other forums, well, those are other forums, I kinda don't put too much stock in a lot of user reviews unless I know who reviewed it or had a comment could tell their *** from thier elbow. There's a lot of hardware nubes and morons who'll diss a board because they tried it without the heatsink on the CPU or, or plainly set it wrong, or otherwise didn't have the first clue about setting up a machine anyway.

thanks for your comments so far,

You don't have to be rocket scientist to realize that dr Pabst is pro intel, just reading the conclusion of the P4 review you can see that, he mentioned that DDR got no future. Anand Tech is also pro intel no matter what peoples thinks.
