Im building a new comp and i have one question about the motherboard. Which One? I was going to go with teh Asus A7V, but i want one that will last for the future...This led me to select the A7A266, but then i heard that the Ali chipset sucks! So i want a motherboard with good overclocking ability and i want one with fairly fast memory and a motherboard for goo dgaming and one that will live up to new technologies for the future...any ideas?

You should have posted this in one of the motherboard section.

Likewise read the threads in the motherboard section to get a good idea of what chip set and features you want.

Then check with Asus, Abit, Iwill, Epox, MSI, and Giga-byte (I am sure I am missing some) and see what they have and what suits your needs.

I have th eA7M266 and I like it a lot, despite a couple of drawbacks. As long as you can affort the price, get the A7M instead of the A7A... It is a great board, but has a few feature drawbacks, such as no Raid. But otherwise it is a solid board that performs really well, and is exceptional if you make a few mods to it... I built my own system using this board and it is running really well, mostly thanks to the help of all the guys in this forum...

But, i have heard that is sux for overclocking. The only single reason is because there is no multiplier manipulation. But overall, i do agree that it does beat the A7A266 motherboard. Not by much tho.

I have the A7A266, and it is an amazing board. Coming from Intel, and this being my first amd experience, i am trully amazed!

My duron 750 is @ 954mhz 159fsb, and i have no cooling mods to the motherboard. Don't even have a fan on the northbridge, nor thermal paste.

with my VooDoo3 @ default settings, and my ram at CAS3, i get a 3dmark2001 score of 1755. The highest score at madonion is 1880 with a duron @ 1016, and the voodoo3 overclocked somewhere in the 200's.

My point being that the motherboard is making a huge difference, and this board rocks, and i don;t even have DDR ram yet. I have 256mb PC2100 in the mail right now!

Hope i shed some light on the subject.

I wana get the Asus A7V133 (ATX) KT133A, 266MHz FSB, ATA-100. I heard that this boards is good. I wanna know if this supports pc-100, pc-133 and pc-2100 RAM? Does it? Is this a good board..im gonna get it. I wanna o/c it and im an avid gamers(counterstrike).

It is a good board but it is not a DDR board so it doesn't support pc-2100.
