modem problems with xp pro

hi,
i just did the vdimm mod to my asus p4c800 and it was successful but when i increased the vdimm and tried to tighten the timings i had a windows system file that corrupt so i had to reinstall xp pro over the original well that was fine ever program works but my broadband would not work.
so i uninstalled the files(broadband) and reinstalled it but when i try to connect to broadband it says there is an error 701(or something like that? dont think it is that 1, will have to check)
in the bottom right corner of the screen there is a little icon which tells u what u have connected to your pc externally, next to the time.
well now for some reason when i open that icon and click on the usb broadband icon it says is is safe to remove the usb now, well before it never said that
also when i right click and properties it says "bt Broadband #2" i think the pc is trying to find the #2 usb broadband but cannot so is coming up with errors
so is there any way to delete the #2 broadband from my pc?

or i could just format but i dont feel like it
