Monitor problem

I have a 19" Silicon Graphics monitor and whenever I hook it up it on stays in energy save mode with the orange light flashing.What could be the problem?

Looks like the signal isn't reaching the monitor. Do other monitors work? Are all the plugs and connections in correctly? Are you pushing the resoultion too high?

Everything is connected and my 17" works fine. I have never used this monitor.
