I just had my 8500 out installing a crystal orb and some ramsinks. With a little help from Funnyperson I was finally able to remove the freakin stock heatsink, Phew. In the mean time while I was letting the alumina adhesive set up, I put my old GeForce 2 mx 32 meg back in , this is a first generation mx also. and used some old drivers from hercules like the 6.35's and ran the quake 3 demo I reached 99 Fps with the gf2 I have never been able to do that with my radeon. The best i can get out of my radeon is 93.7 FPS. Why is this, my radeon has twice as much ram, and its alot newer card. :( But i do get better scores in 3dMark 2K! SE with radeon. Any ideas?

hmmm...interesting....you sure VSYNC is off in the Ati drivers and that you COMPLETELY removed the old Nvidia drivers...also i wouldnt worry about it you wont see a difference from 94 fps and even 194fps its more than your eyes can take....also make sure all settings are the same....

yeah v sync was off, I hate playing Ut with it on. While i was running around in Unreal Tournament with timedemo on the FPS were still higher, with the GF2 Mx. Im not really worried about it just dazzeled me. And Thanks for the help with the Heatsink, I appreciate it.

yeah funnyperson is right about that...TV broadcast is 30FPS and a motion picture is 24FPS. The eye needs 15FPS to see smooth motion. And i'm not talking out of my blowhole about this either I work with video and computer equipment

but still you would expect the 8500 to destroy the Geforce

Exactly Im not complaing, just wondering. After all were all not here to settle for what works, were here to see what we can crank out of our systems. And I would think that a Radeon 8500 could crank out alot more than my GF2 mx speaking FPS anyways. I think my sys. has alot to do with it though. My cpu is way slow and i stil have SDRAM.

700MHZ T-Bird
Giga-byte GA-7zx
RAdeon 8500
384 megs PC-133 SDRAM

Maybe I cant get a new motherboard and CPU soon.

Perhaps your CPU is the bottleneck. Also you have to make sure the old drivers are completely uninstalled especially with WinXP and ME. This means going into safe mode and manually removing the drivers from the device manager and uninstalling them also from the control panel.

Make sure aniso is turned off and Smoothvision is off also.. and like previously said, make sure the the det drivers are gone.. completly.. and have a clean install of new radeon drivers..
use these drivers listed in this link to a thread at Rage3d.com.. these drivers are very stable.. you should be able to get higer scores than that.. I haven't run a QIII bench in a while, but I used to get above the 130's, with older drivers, which sucked..

do a search at Rage3d forums to do a clean install of drivers when dealing with betas/leaked versions.
