I guess my main problem is I don't know jack about any memory past PC133. I'm looking at a CPU ad for a Duron 750, stating it's "200 MHz", which I assume is the FSB speed. I don't know what type of memory to put in it's motherboard.

I'm guessing what I need is RDRAM, but even after poking through the site's articles for a while I find I'm still not knowledgeable enough to select memory for such a system.

Someone want to give me a quick primer on memory above PC133?

i'm sure someone will explain this better... but...
200 and 266mhz cpu's by AMD.. socket A also called socket 462...
use SDRAM for the most part. the best bet is PC133 that performs well O/C'd to 150 ... from what i've read PC150 isn't really that great performance vs. cost etc...

DDR is another option for those boards which support it, i guess only a few..
but as the front page often points out... possible obsolecence in the near future as the technology is lamer than expected.

200/266 is what the chip runs at, but the bus for the memory remains 100/133 and you need the chip unlocked to change the fsb and/or multiplier and/or voltage

i guess theres alot to the story, as i said, i'm sure someone else can explain better... but IMO get some crucial or mushkin SDRAM @ 133 CL2 and you'll be happy about it.
 
133 mhz memory is called PC-133 which was the last official SDRAM standard, some people quote PC-150 and higher, however this is not an official standard and is in fact PC-133 RAM tested to run at 150 mhz or whatever speed they quote, Quite where this puts your guarantee I don't know. the Duron by default runs on a 100 mhz FSB and as such only requires PC-100 SDRAM. However when overclocking most people use a high quality PC-133 SDRAM which gives more options when setting up the FSB, most good makes of PC-133 will run faster than 133 mhz though.

The latest CPU's (TBird for example) runs at a 266 mhz internal speed which is a double pumped 133 mhz FSB and these systems can take DDR (double data rate ram) which gives a slight performance boost, however this performance gain is minor considering the increased price and as such most people avoid it. ( a 200 mhz internal speed is a double pumped 100 mhz FSB )

RDRAM is apparently a lot faster and a lot more expensive so is out there in dreamland for most people..

With a unlocked Duron and good quality PC-133 RAM and a good hsf + additional cooling (if needed) you will end up with a very nice system for the price

you can run your cpu and everything else at 2 different FSB's right? internal and external bus? I know u could with my old KT7 133a Raid, but was that paticular to that board only? Can the A7A266 do that? I have heard of problems becuase people overclock by FSB, and end up getting like burnt out sound cards? does this change the FSB of the entire board?
