Soon I will have to build my parents a new system, and I'm looking at building them an AMD system. I plan to go with at least a 1 Ghz T-bird. I am not planning to overclock this system at all and i need some motherboard buying advice. I would like a good stable board that is priced well. I am familiar with the Asus, Abit, and Epox Athlon boards, but since i am not planning to do any tweaking i'm not sure that one of these would be the right board. I have also heard some good things about Soyo and I-will and mixed opinions on Shuttle as far as Athlon boards go.

Any opinions are appreciated

i would opt for a DURON if you are buying it for your parents....cheap and efficient. Then I would go for a GOOD MOBO with the money you saved from not buying an Athlon....aka ABIT KT7E or KG7, these are good motherboards, the KT7As are going for REAL cheap right now and are VERY good boards. But then it all depends on if you want DDR or PC133 ram

well if your buying a 1 ghz mise well spend another 50$ for a 1.4 ghz and make sure you get a good heatsink get the SK6 on there
and id suggest a EPOX 8KTA3 motherboard or a AOPEN ak73 them are nice stable moterboards

I have just purchased the Shuttle AK31. It seems to be the best mobo for the price. I don't see why you have mixed opinions. The reviews are great as well as the price. What do your parents want to do with this computer? If they just want something to cruise on the internet with you could just get a Duron 750 (25 bucks on pricewatch) and overclock. All this would save you about 75 bucks. It's your decision though. The 1ghz is a great value too though and I wouldn't really hesitate to get it. P.S. If you want a good hsf for cheap get the Golden Gate from www.svcompucycle.com. I saw a review where it beat the sk6. I would still say the sk6 better. It just isn't a good value compared to the gg which is 30 bucks less. Good Luck and are you sure you don't want to o/c it? That's alright if you don't though b/c it's your parents, but the potential would be there.

Why don't you check out NewEgg, they always have excellent prices along with some other sites and find some boards in the price range your thinking of. Then come back and we can tell you what board or boards are the best.
Also, I think the 1ghz t bird is an excellent choice, it's cheap and it won't require upgrading for quite awhile.
