motherboard or 4pin molex?

Hmm, the draw on that fan isn't too terrible. It would be borderline, but you should probably be fine.

Otherwise, you could get a splitter cable that allows you to power it from a molex but still feed the RPM signal to the motherboard. -- Paul

well, it was originally a case fan, so I'm not sure what it wa "made for". I'll try it on the motherboard, and hope it doesn't kill anything.

Would it be bad to also power another muh lower draw fan?

like is each channel allotted power, or is it the motherboard fan headers as a whole?

Agreed -- there shouldn't be a problem with that fan. Unless you have documentation for your motherboard that says otherwise, I'd be comfortable with any current draw under 300-350 mA. Maybe 400 mA.

What do you mean by powering another, lower-draw fan? You mean off of the same 3-pin motherboard header, or do you mean from a different 3-pin header on the motherboard? If the former, I'd say it's not a good idea (add up the total current and see if it's high), if the latter, then go for it.

I meant like my vantec iceberg I'm using for the northbridge. just a little 40-50mm fan. I was going to use them on side by side headers. I'll go for it.

Thanks.

Thanks for the post back. It sounds like it should be alright, but please do let us know if you run into trouble. -- Paul
