Hey all! I currently have a 2.4 ghz 533mhz 512kb with I believe a 865G chipset that I bought from Dell ( Dimension 4600 ). I want to increase the CPU.( I'd like to get 3.2/ 3.4 ) How do I find out what motherboard I have and how much processor speed it will handle? Without calling Dell! Thanks!

Welcome to O/C :welcome:

I think you're pretty much S.O.L.. Dell motherboards are not overclocking boards, so overclocking it is out of the question. You might be able to swap out the cpu to install a faster one, but then it would have to be a 533MHz chip ( which I think it's the celeron). and celerons don't run pass 2.6Ghz i believe.

No no, I don't want to overclock, I just want to upgrade the CPU, the 865G chipset supports 533/800mhz FSB. But does that mean I can just go buy a 3.4 ghz processor and pop it in, or are there others devices on the motherboard to upgrade also?

Ahhh, i see. Hmm, not 100% if that particular board will support a 3.4GHz cpu.

Download Belarc Here It's pretty detailed and should give more info on what board you have along with other info. Maybe we can help you out better.

As far as other parts, no, you don't need to upgrade unless you really want to.

Wow, okay, that's everything. Yeah it's a Dell Computer Corp. board #02Y832

Dang :( I'd hate to see you throw away money buying a new cpu only to find out your board won't support it. Have you considered building a whole new unit? Most of all the parts you have in that case can be used to build a new setup. I doubt you'll be able to use that dell case and psu, but evrything else can be used.

Yep, that's what i'm thinking. New motherboard/CPU combo. And yeah, nothing fits in a Dell case but a Dell board eh. You've been a great help Nebulous, Thankyou!

No problemo. I'm sry I could'nt help you more, but at least you got some of your questions answered :)

Feel free to pm me.
