I don't know how common this issue is, but I'm already on my eighth mouse (maybe I missed something), and I've run out of models I can check. I need something with 12 programmable side buttons, but the available options are very limited. Brands like Logitech are no longer selling mice of this type.

This is the history I remember:
  • Corsair Scimitar (first version) - the wheel broke, the plastic pin holding it cracked after about a year of use
  • Corsair Scimitar (second, a bit improved version) - the wheel had that annoying "rubber-banding" issue when you scroll, and the screen gets back a bit randomly every 1-2 scrolls; problems with this mouse started after about 2 years.
  • Corsair Scimitar - replacement - about 8 months to get the same issue
  • Corsair Scimitar Pro - Corsair promised improvements but did nothing, I had the same problem after a year; I got my money back
  • Razer Naga X - two problems, one with the scrolling and another with the sensor, I got a replacement
  • Razer Naga X - a problem with scrolling again; I got my money back
  • Corsair Scimitar Elite - because of a lack of other options with 12+ programmable buttons, and I wanted something wireless; the problem with scrolling started in about 5-6 months; so far I cleaned it, and it somehow works. I left it "just in case", and I bought another mouse ...
  • SteelSeries Aerox 9 Wireless - I just made an RMA for the same scrolling issue after 4 months of use. There is no difference after cleaning with compressed air, and I can't open it, or I will lose the warranty (or at least have to buy new skates).

I don't have any problems with older Logitech or HyperX, but all the programmable buttons are missing there.

My anecdote...asus mice have been solid for me. Evga.... not so much.

Not sure that's at all helpful unless asus has an 'mmo'mouse with all those buttons you need.

I see 26 ASUS mice listed, but nothing is even close to what I need. I wonder why they release so many similar products.

I thought they improved something in the Elite version as it was like the third generation with the added wireless connection, but the base is the same with the same design flaws. There are a lot of videos on YouTube and other places about wheel issues. There is too much space between the wheel, buttons, and other parts, and anything can easily get inside. Every hair or dust inside causes these problems. Sometimes, you can fix it with compressed air. Sometimes, you can't do much without putting it into pieces to clean it inside. I don't want to do that every 1-2 months.

I'm surprised I never have problems like that with $5 office mice or anything from cheaper gaming series.

I have absolutely no idea which version I have. Admittedly I’ve not searched a lot to find the differences.

I guess I will wait for SteelSeries to get back from RMA.
Logitech had a G600 MMO, but it was discontinued long ago. I have a G502 somewhere that I was using with my laptop. It has maybe 5 or 6 years, if not more, and works without issues, but it is smaller and has fewer buttons that are also not so comfortable to use for longer.

I had about 4 MX518 mice that I slowly frankenstiend together over the last decade; harvesting parts from one when my main died. Finally ran out of usable parts and was forced into the G502 Hero (bleh). Today's mice suck, they don't have the same feel as the original gaming mice.

Just do the same Woomack. Those types of mice are hard to find and limited in companies. I'd just start repairing them yourself. Mice are among the simplest electronics to manage.
