MP's as single cpu

I looked in the data base, and either there is nothing on this topic, or I didn't word it right.
Will most motherboards recognize an MP as unlocked? And will MP's work as a single or are they for smp only? Thanks in advance.

Unless you are 100% sure on the stepping you are getting, I wouldn't just rush and buy one, unless you get a good stepping I think it just isn't worth it, just get a $55 XP1600+ and OC the FSB and when u hit the memory's limit just give unlocking a shot
