Hello gamers,
I love my MSI GT 83VR-6RE with 1070s in SLI. I'm new to overclocking and would appreciate any information on improving the performance on my computer. When I play Dolby Vision 4K videos on YouTube, the resolution, color and clarity is stunning even at 60Hz. This machine never ceases to amaze me. I just want to see it at peak performance. Does anybody out there run SLI? Can't I just switch the SLI bridge over to NVlink or a higher bandwidth bridge? Recommended overclocking of CPU and GPU? Thank you for the help.

:)

You should be able to overclock the CPU up to about 4.0GHz. I'm not sure how much an improvement that will be nor if the added heat would be worth it. Some testing on your part would likely be necessary. It should overclock like most Skylake CPU's, so just follow the various guides online.

I don't know much about SLI, so I have no advice for that.

That's a laptop, right?? I don't know how much overclocking you can do on a laptop as the cooling is already limited. Add 2x 1070s in there and I can't imagine there's much headroom. What are your load temps when gaming? Stress testing?

What CPU is in there in the first place? The specs page I found doesn't list one, lol.

SLI has gone the way of the dodo for the last several years. It's power-hungry and inefficient, so very few people run it today. That said, you don't have a choice if you have a laptop. I don't think changing the SLI bridge on a laptop is possible. You can try overclocking the GPUs, but like the CPU, you're likely limite by temps (what are you load temps on those cards when gaming?). What resolution is your monitor you use for gaming?

Thank you Blaylock for your feedback. I always appreciate experienced tech/gaming advice. I just love this computer. Turns heads in the airport lounges.

@EarthDog had to do some deep digging to find out the cpu too. If I'm correct the 2x 1070s have a i7-6820hk with 32Gb of DDR4 ram. So standard Skylake clocking, but like you said, temps will ne the limiting factor and I'm not sure the end results will be worth it. But hey, it's fun to play, so I say go for it. If it nets little results just resort back to stock.

What about overclocking the GPUs. Is The Dragon Center the best way to set clock speeds?

Youre probably right. it would be awesome if pilot confirmed....

I'm saying try as well, but we need to know temps... overclocking 101.... :)

Msi afterburner is my tool of choice for overclocking video cards.

But before you start overclocking, it is important to know temperatures. If they are already at or close to the limit you won't get anything out it... though undervolting may still be possible. So, kindly consider finding that out and letting us know so we can best help you.
