So unfortunately I have 2 of these and one has failed fans and the other has one of the two on it failing.

https://www.amazon.com/MSI-RTX-4070...981293738-B0CSG8NYT3-&hvexpln=73&gad_source=1

It should be a warranty replacement. (3 Year on these and they are not a year old) Or...These are the OEM replacements. What I wish I could do is upgrade them to a much nicer set. I just don't know if it can be done. It looks like MSI has been using these crap fans for years. I know how to replace them as its just a few screws and a wire.

Any help/advice is appreciated. I know @WhitehawkEQ has a lot of experience with replacing (Most of us think he has too much experience :chair:)

RMA.

I would ask MSI if you can send them fans only. If they agree, you can use other fans with zip ties (set lower power limits or something, but still have usable cards for the time of replacement). I don't know if they accept a warranty if you replace fans on your own and anything happens to the cards. They are sometimes acting weird.

There is a 3D printed frame on Etsy that I am thinking of grabbing. Lets you deshroud and add 120mm fans. Not sure if I am going to do that or just mount 3x 92mm fans on myself. My Zotac has a noisy fan, been like that since day one lol..

I do have the luxury of plenty of GPU's. My concern is that the GPU should work for a few minutes even without fans. So they can just have the whole card.

I honestly thought replacing these crap fans would be a lot easier. It's involved and with 3 years warranty on a '24 GPU can't do much. I was talking to Whitehawk wondering does the GPU know if the fans are not turning or is only excess heat shutting down. I felt this GPU should have worked without the fans.

A lot of these cards have a zero fan feature, but the fans kick on at a specific temperature. I'd imagine if the GPU doesn't work at all with a borked fan (unusual), then it's a connection thing.

Every GPU works with a broken fan. You can install water blocks or other 3rd party coolers connected directly to some other power source. There are still sensors that read temps and push fans to some speed, so even if there is no fan, the card tries to use it. However, modern cards are thermal throttling. I just don't know how much, as I had no broken fan case for a long time (noisy, yes, but still spinning). I assume they just slow down to the point something crashes or you see a bluescreen, which is some kind of OS failswich.

Yeah these are pretty bad. For example if I spin it with my finger it barely makes one rotation and stops. I thought at first its just rubbing plastic housing...but no , the bearing are Kaput.

I hope my black SKU holds up for a few weeks till I get this back. At that point I'll start an RMA on this one. Man its just such a waste of resources for them and myself as I have to pay shipping. That will cost as much as the fans themselves. They don't ship parts. I'll give them credit for approving RMA in 3 hours.

Again this would be such a pain for someone who doesn't have 6 4070's sitting around.

Thanks for the info Folks.

Warranty returned. Fans spin perfectly. It's working so far F@h if it makes through 24 Hrs I'll consider it fixed. Even tho they specifically said do not send it in original box as it wouldn't be returned. I sent it anyway for the safety of the GPU and they returned it. Most be a guideline rather than a rule. :D

What a surprise (NOT). My second (Black) MSI 4070 Ti Super had one of the fans fail early this morning. I'll start the warranty replacement. Not looking forward to it as 1) MSI has bad communication and 2) They will just replace the fan with an OEM which will fail in a year. The 2 GPU's are both less than a year old.

It could make it to the Bios but would just loop back to it after saving. I was going to put another GPU in. It occurred to me to just use the CPU GPU so after fumbling with one port not recognizing the input another one did. Maybe there is a limit as I have 4 or 5 cables plugged in. My wife just uses the PC for browsing (Buying stuff) and I uninstalled my f@h client for now.

These APU's have come along way. If your not gaming it's hard to tell it doesn't have a dedicated GPU. A nice option when a GPU goes south.

I don't know about all MSI GPU's but these SKU's suck.

I can't fault MSI for speed of RMA# approval this time. They have completely expedited approval. A minute for a chat to approve a link. A minute to get a link sent. Another minute to print out a couple of RMA forms. Much improved. I should be able to send it out today.

MSI received the GPU today...

Conversation probably went like this...

Service Manager: Another of these bad fans, gosh that is over 100 this week. Jimmy how long for you or Juan to fix these fans.

Jimmy: About 4 minutes.

Service Manager: Ok well it appears this guy got this card to us in 3 days, he must be stuck using his APU for graphics...Must be in a big hurry this is the second one he RMA'ed...What do you suggest ?

Jimmy: I just finished the repair while you were talking , I'll put it on this pile. Should be 2 weeks for shipping and we send it the slowest possible way. We can have it back to them in 3 or 4 weeks. He should be thrilled we fixed it at all.

Service Manager: That is perfect Upper Management will like that HeHeHe. Time for break boys.

Me: :confused::confused:

Surprise they actually emailed me that it is shipping. (I saw saw that myself yesterday). It is annoying that they do nor provide the tracking number though.

A record . I finally got around to calling MSI to get a tracking number. 15 days to ship an RMA is awful.(Shipped 10/1) It is on Shetland pony somewhere East of the Mississippi river. :rain:

PS. If any one sees a pony with a fedex saddle , let me know.😇
