Hey all,
I have just setup 2x Maxtor 120gb ATA133 HD's as a Striped RAID 0, and have a question or two.

I've read all the stickies on RAID, and still can't understand the supposed total capacity of the array.
- In the Promise RAID manual that came with the motherboard, it says the array is only as large as the smallest disk in the array, however many hard drives are in the array - hence 120gb.
- Yet in Windows, the drive has the capacity of the 2 drives combined - 240gb.
From what i can make out, surely it should only be 120gb, as the 2 drives read and write in parallel, with all the data spread across the 2 drives.
- Also, during Windows XP installation, a box pops up saying the "PromiseMBFastrak 133 Lite Controller Driver is not digitally signed" and that they strongly recommend not using it as I may encounter problems now or in the future. -> This is the driver I used off floppy disk by pressing F6 during windows installation.
- And now for some reason, in Windows I can no longer insert my motherboards Driver CD and load it. An error box pops up saying the CD has caused an error, and shows that "Send / Don't Send box".

Would all this be caused by the RAID? Because it never happened before.
Any help much appreciated.;)

Your disk size is right, RAID 0 = (Size of smallest disk)*(Number of disks) so that went well.

I dont know if the unsigned driver will give you problems, but try going to promise site and getting an updated version, it may help.

And I have no idea about the CD, did you try another CD in the drive?

I don't think any of the Promise drivers I have used were digitally signed, some companies just don't bother with it it seems.

The situation you are describing, where both drives are written to in parallel, is raid 1, not raid 0. In raid 0 data is stripped across all of the drives in the array. There is no data mirroring at all, the files are just broken into pieces (which depends on the stripe size you selected) and stored on multiple drives.

Thanks for replying.
Got it working perfect, went to Gigabytes site and got updated Promise drivers.
The CD now works and all is fine!
Well pleased.:D
