must use winamp to "boot" my sound up if i dont games are silent wtf?

if i turn on mypc and start a game or [i think wav files] i get no sound but if i go and turn on winamp and hit play all sound starts up aka the silent game im runnen normal sounds

then i juz hit stop and close winamp and no more problems till i reboot

im using a kd7 kt400 board and i use Spdif optical output cuz i got a nice dolby suround kenwood reciever theater system [100watts x5 woot ]
