i finally completed the laptop that iv been working on for the last 2 months or so. Its a thinkpad 240. i bought it w/out a charger, HD cage, or HD for $23 shipped off the forums a month or two ago. it came w/a 300mhz celly and 128mb ram. the reason it was being sold so cheap was because the screen didnt show an image and the previous owner had no luck fixing it (i still got it for UBER cheap). Then, i stuck a 20gb HD that i had laying around (got it via trade a while back ). i had hoped on being able to fix it myself, but i got busy and forgot a bout i for a while. a couple weeks later i bought a charger, hd caddy, and usb floppy for $30 shipped (hd caddy alone is $30-40 on ebay). then i loaded up 2kpro on it via my tower using an adapter that i pretty much got for free a little while back. a couple days ago i finally decided to figure out what was wrong w/it.
turns out that the video connector somehow got snapped off the board :eh?: and there was no way for me to solder it back on. fortunatly the screen connector was just fine :)
so i prowled ebay for a replacment board/cpu (cpu soldered to board) and i came upon a 366mhz celly board w/the lower casing (makes things 10x easier for me :santa: for $25 shipped. i got it today and the screen worked!
i had a spare dell wifi card lying around so i stuck that in the availble slot.
so - $23 for the screen/memory/kb-m/GOOD battery, free 20gb hd, $25 for a new board/proc/base of laptop, $30 for hd caddy, charger, and usb floppy. total = 78 :attn:
i think ill play w/this 4hr battery life lappy for a week or two then sell it on ebay for $225/250

Very nice! Nothing better than making some dough off of a little hard work, ingenuity, and blatant uhh... *thinks of a good word*

Dang, no word :)

But, good job, sell it, make a couple bucks :)

Nice. It's amazing what a little knowledge, some spare time invested, and a little bit of money can yield. Laptops are like gold on ebay so you'll make off like a demon. (heck, I sold my 366 MHz P2 laptop with 256 MB/6 GB/DVD/LAN/Wifi cards, thing held about a 15 minute battery charge, for $150 on buy-it-now and it went an hour after I listed it. I should have asked for more)

But you didn't include the cost of the 20 gig hard drive and the card that you added in. that has to add around $60-80 --- that puts you at around 150, + its a celeron. I've seen low end cellys go for $150... maybe you can bang them on shipping and make like $20 in "handling"

But I do applaud your determination. I buy broken ones and fix them all the time, and make a killing, anything 400-600 under 200 is in demand on craigslist/ebay.

4 hour battery life is damn good though.

This is the super small ibm right ?

lol I don't do it, actually i offer free shipping on all my items to entice buyers. But business is business-- and its not low if the shipping price is stated no matter how obsurd it is.
