so My brother plays WoW which is cpu intensive. I have assembled a system. I think it is overpowered PSU wise but was wondering about any opinions. The various calculators I hit says this thing doesn't even pull 400 watts. Silence is a concern so overwatting might help the fan run less.

I have a corsais 1000watt modular but was wondering if a 600watt would do. even if i upgraded to a gtx260 or something like that. I realize i forgot a dvdr and am trying to make funds. the amount you see is about the total budget. 1600. Also I am watercooling so I will have a mcp655 and 3 low speed fans.
No oc at all.

one other question is I know the i7 runs at 1066 but there isn't a ton of ddr3 1066 ram out there. I am still a little fuzzy on the whole math relationship between cpu and ram when QPI is involved.

Corsair 400w could probably do it juuust fine. 1kw is far, far, far too much.

I would probably go with something like an Hx650 for future proofing and staying modular, but you can always buy the Hx1000 and we can trade psu's. The build looks solid. I don't know so much about sound cards, but I've never had problems with onboard personally. Maybe get rid of the sound card and get a smaller psu and then get at least a 5770. (5770 > Gtx 260)

I think the ATI cards still output audio from the hdmi if he is using a hdmi receiver to tv like I did a while back eliminating the need for a separate sound card.

I went and messed about last night. swapped out the psu which gave me more for a card so I did manage the 5770.

He specifically wanted a sound card to offload the processing. past experience thing i think. that's fine.

thanks. i actually jsut swapped out the mobo as well. they had a deal where youg et teh i7 930 + Ram a lot cheaper. same ram as I have. so I upgraded teh board to a ASUS P6X58D Premium so he can get sata 6gbs later.
