I just finished doing my first lap job, on my CPU heatsink. I just wanted to publicly thank Hoot for his assistance in PM's. I appreciate the outstanding advice.

I'd post pics of the results, but I don't have a digital camera. Still waiting for my Arctic Alumina, and a few other odds and ends, so I'm trying to borrow one before final re-assembly. :)

Suffice it to say, that my results are comparable to Hoot's and Starfox's, using 600 grit, and the "Hoot Technique". :)

Thanks again to this list, but especially Hoot and Starfox. I'll be changing the first line of my sig in 7 days, I hope. :)

lapping has not really done much for me - the waterblock i use came pre lapped and polished and doing it to a heatsink didn't result in any temp change, i still do it though - especally on perminant things (like chipset heatsinks)

Great Lumoxx!..Im going to LAP my HSF today...just to see what it will do to my temps...if I run my fingernail across the Copper insert I can feel LOTS of ridges...lol...so I figure I'll try it..after im done, I'll post some results..and a pic or 2...

This thread has a pic of my lapped HS, as well as a full description of the "Hoot Technique" in a reply further down.

Good luck with yours! :)
