Hello, my "IBM Deskstar 7200RPM IDE" was giving me a lot of crap this morning. I turn on my computer, and a windows screen comes up and displays "Checking for Disk Consistancy or something like that" It was reading files of my 38GB. The thing that stumped me was Windows XP wasn't even on this hardrive. Does that screen mean the drive is going bad, or is it just a big misunderstanding. Keep in mind that I had already tried system restore and the whole deal. Thanks for your help.

If your drive is shown in BIOS as IC35L040AVER07-0 you have a Deathstar aka 60GXP HDD, I suggest you back up your data A.S.A.P. as these drives don't tend to last long once they're showing to have problems.

The drives are sold as being 41GB drives, but the interpretation of 1GB given by the manufacturor is slightly different from windows 1GB interpretation....in this case windows is right :sn:

This sucks, my friend and I tried recovering data off the hardrive and guess what.... Didn't work. I had a lot of stuff on there (Game Installs, Downloads, Music, TGT Soft Style XP) Its about 27GB that went to the crapper. Well, thank you for all your help. Another Question, Im planning to buy another hardrive. Ive been looking at the 80GB SATA Hardrives. My friend said, that I wouldn't notice any performance jump. He said that you need 2 SATA drives to notice a big performance jump. Anyways, what would you recommend.... IDE or SATA, my motherboard already supports it and everything, but, Im not sure what to go for. I was looking at this one hardrive Hitachi 80GB Sata Drive: 67.00 on newegg. I have the money, but Im not sure what to do.
