I don't understand it.
I cannot use the Windows Search feature to search for any files.

The message I get is:
"Unexpected Error
Action could not be completed"

What happened?

I have three drives in this computer.

The system files are on the SATA drive and the other two are just for Data connected via IDE.

Try running the System File Checker. Click [Start] [Run] and type sfc /scannow in the [Open] box. You'll be prompted to place your XP CD into your optical drive. Then just let it do it's thing. It takes 10-15 minutes, and then you reboot. Hopefully, it will have fixed it. It is not a sure thing, but it is certainly worth a shot. Good luck.

Assuming you're running XP, you could also try reinstalling the files that the Search Companion requires. Log on to your computer using an account with administrative privileges, then type the following in the Run box... %systemroot%\inf, and click OK. Locate the Srchasst.inf file, right click and select "Install".
