Buy now and you can be garenteed that when the card is actualy put to use that the geforce3 QDR or gefroce3 pro will be out. so what do you get for buying now? a whole bunch of useless features that wont be widely used untill 2002!I mean what is the use of wasting 700 on a card that will be out of date before it can be used? would it not make more sence to buy a geforce2 ultra now and wait for geforce3 gts?even now the games don't push a gefroce2 ultra! the cpu, harddrive and ram isn't fast enough to keep up with the damn thing! This is also anouther reason to look at wether it is worth it to buy something today that is limited by todays hardware. This video card thing is getting out of hand :) :) ;)

That depends on what resolution and other features you want to use in current games.
Try running a game @ 1280x1024 with all options on and 4x antialaising and see what framerate you get.
If you only play games at 800x600 or less with no antialaising then no benifit but some people like getting better picture quality.

Heres a comparison of a GF Ultra on quake 3 vs the GF3:

Im running Tribes2 at 1280x1024 and am still getting realy good framerates

that is true through if you get a better hd,cpu, mem, everything will improve

I cant wait tell I get my raid set up so I can realy take the full advantage of the gf2 ultra

My thoughts exactly. It's taken a while for software to catch up to current standards, you can only imagine how long until the "revolutionary" geforce3 chip will be utilized to its fullest.

I liked the product comparison -- but they failed to mention the price difference of almost $150.00

Im getting a Hercules Geforce3 tomorrow. Im not rich, believe me, the cost of the thing has dented my wallet. I have a VERY good monitor, thats why the geforce3 is a must for me. BUT, and heres what you should understand. Although the card is expensive, it will not drop in price by that much for a LONG time.

If you look at the Geforce2 GTS, you will see that it has stayed at £210 for about 6-9 months. The Geforce2 Ultra is still very expensive. Im happy buying the geforce3 at a ok'ish price (£371) and am confident it will be 6 months before it falls below £300.

And although you say that the Geforce3 has no games optimised for its new nfinitefx engine, you are forgetting the current features of the geforce3. ATM the geforce3 already has...

> Framerates MATCHING or BEATING the gts2 ultra
> 2xAA, 2xQuincux AA, and 4xAA at a PLAYABLE FPS!
> Ansitropic filtering upto 64tap trilinear
> Higher quality RAMDAC and video filters than the gts2ultra, pro and standard cards.
> A5 stepping and good ram, (Overclockable)
> Bragging rights, since there is nothing better than a geforce3
> And finally, a guarentee that things can only get better.

The Geforce3 is for the hardcore gamer, oc hobbiests and rich people. I class myself as somewhere between a gamer and a oc hobbiest.

As mentioned earlier the geforce 3 is all about picture quality, Not speed,
See, nvidia now has the fastest video card out so what would be the point of going faster? So thats were the geforce 3 steps in..better picture quality.

Dont put something down unless you know the facts.
The fastest video card race has stoped.
Its all about best picture now ladies and gentelmen,
prepare for a whole new world of games, developers are alrdy starting to make games that can use the geforce3's infinitFX engine.
Such as max pain.
Also the geforce 3 uses 10% less cpu power..most runs in all hardware mode..that were DX8 comes in..they were made for each other..Why do you think the xbox is gonna be useing DX8?

BTW I will get a geforce 3 this summer..Vision tek maybe or hercules.

PS Pitspawn, Where you getting the hercules card at?
Cause thats one that I wont more than teh vision tek. But either would be great.

Pitspawn I don't mean to burst your bubble but due to high yields in chip manufacturing it seem the GeForce3 will be dropping in price quite rapidly. I hope you haven't bought one yet. I would wait until the new radeon is released before buying a GeForce3 that way there is a little competition going.

I was also wondering why you would think a Raid setup would improve your fps. My HD is never accessed during game play unless a new area is loaded. If you have a lot of ram you could make a ramdrive. This would allow you to load the whole game into ram and see what kind of improvement that would get. I doubt you will see any fps improvement and if so very little.

ATM I think the only reason for a GeForce 3 is to brag. I'm fine with my GeForce 2 MX. Hardcore gamers and show offs - buy your GeForce 3. I'm going to concentrate on buying RAM and Processor that will do the GeForce Justice (A Tbird 1.2Gig w/ 256Meg of RAM and a GeForce 2 MX or GTS is better than a K6-2-500 w/ 64MB of RAM and a GeForce 3)

Leave buying a GeForce 3 until you have other, more important components at top spec, like Processor and RAM.
