I have a messed up problem. In CS, I will use my mic and it will be clear, but if I use it again within about five minutes or so, it sounds like crap.
I said "Hey, can everyone hear me?" and everyone responded "Wow, you are clear ! ! !"
Then I said "OH, THANK GOD. It hasnt worked for weeks" and everyone replied, "HUH? You sound like ***."

What do I do?

As far as I understand it, it's a bandwidth issues. CS could either give you perfect voice but crappy ping, or crappy voice and good ping. Since the voice and data are running over the same pipe, you have to share bandwidth. And since good ping is more important that voice communication, your voice sounds like crap.

BattleCom is much better than that crappy in game stuff. My friend uses it all the time and never has any quality problems.

I gots me a Microsoft Game Voice. It had some problems with XP and the Sound Blaster Audigy, but gamevoice.com has a fix for that now. Just tweak a setting while you're setting it up, and you're good to go.

I dont think it is the bandwidth, I have DSL with 128Kbps up, and I know people with 56k that have the voice thingy working... I think I need to try it in this POS they call V1.4, I unbound the key so I forgot to try it when I played, but I think I will test it when I get back home tonight.

Keep in mind that it's not just your bandwidth you're dealing with here. There's the bandwidth between you and the server, the server's bandwidth, etc. You're just one endpoint in a vast network.

I have had the same thing happen with my 640Kbps down/256Kbps up DSL. And it's not like anyone ever has anything intelligent to say.

Try checking out Microsoft's Game Voice. I have one, and rather liked it, at least in Windows 98. There were some issues when running in XP with a Soundblaster Audigy, but they have a fix for that now. Download the GameVoice Share program, and give that a try. If you like it, buy the box. Gives you voice commands if you download or create profiles for games. Very useful.

I want something to talk to the people in a game, would that be heard people in the game, or do they need the same setup?

Also, other people on the servers I play on have their mics set up perfectly, and at the same time, mine blows...

If you wanna use the game voice for communication, they at least need Game Voice Share setup. It's the free app you can download. And they'll hear it either in game or not.
