OK, well the rig is up and running.

I have tried everything. CPU is a 3000+ CBBID 0451. For the life of me, I cannot get it to 2.4ghz stable. Board is a K8NS Ultra 939 gigabyte. I have tried all voltages, from 1.4 all the way up to 1.6. 1.6 volts should be PLENTY for 2.4ghz. I have tried two sets of ram, I have tried running async, I have tried running high HTT, low HTT, different multis. I really am clueless now.

Is it normal for a winchester to perform THIS god aweful. I want my old socket 754 back if this is the case. What a horrible waste of money!

Why don't you try it on another mobo and check it out?? I'm really interested if the mobo is the problem because a very close friend of mine owns it (3500+ NC) and I haven't OCed it yet so I really want to know..

I don't have another motherboard for it. Maybe I'll buy one off the classifieds. This is HORRIBLE! I'm so frustrated right now!!!!!!!

At this clock speed, my Mobile Barton does better in benchmarks!!!!!!

this isn't bad my 3500+ can't pass 2.41 ghz, and I tried voltages from 1.5 to 1.7

return it :)
tsk tsk you should never return a product because its only defective in the area of bonus speed, now if it wouldnt even run at stock it would need returned

I would return it just if I bought it from a computer store like frys or compusa, sending it back in the mail is to much of a hassle

that still doesnt make it right in any sense

OP sorry for the off topicness but i know how you feel other than that mine is with a 754 NC i'll work at higher here soon hopefully

CBBIB is known for being terrible, especially the 51 week, even at xtremesystems people are having trouble with that chip. =\

Well that sux, guess its luck of the draw.My winnie is doing 2.5 at 1.425v rock solid,I know I could do more but this is what I had hoped for when I bought it and the temps are really good so im happy.maybe when I get bored Ill try to get some more out of it

that...sucks. come on venice (unless i get lucky)

not every chip overclocks well.. I once I had pentium 4 2.6 that just would not go over 2.7... It sucks.. but it happens.

Cooling? Keeping hypertransport under 1000? Keeping ram reasonable?

Sometimes it happens, but just think of all the upgrades you can get out of 939, venice cores and even possibly dual cores.

I am starting to think its motherboard.

I tried 250x7 and it failed prime95 in 5 seconds. I figured the CPU might not be able to run the ram 1:1, so I set the ram to 200mhz. Still failed instantly. That is a 1.7ghz clock speed! WHAT GIVES? Can it still be CPu? And yes, I kept the HTT below 1000mhz.

Wow that really does not make any sense. It sounds like it may be the mobo. Stupid question, but did you flash the new bios for it? I know that some mobos did not support that CPU with out the new flash. I have a 3200 and it has reached 2.43 with no problems. I would definatly try to flash the new bios and hope for the best
