Yes, that's right, once again a new chip has come then seemingly disappeared.

The 3.06 was on Newegg and Googlegear for around $700 this weekend...saw it with my own eyes...now its not even on the Pricewatch CPU list, though you can find 3 sites (as of an hour ago...may have "disappeared" by now) that list it on Pricewatch, but ONLY if you seach for "Pentium 4 3.06Ghz"

Hmm...shady, shady, shady

Well the launch isn't until Thursday. Don't worry, they'll be back.

But you're right, it is a little shady. I wonder if resellers are posting and pulling items like that just to increase traffic on their sites.

more likely they're being told by intel to remove them from their lists. until the official release.

there are plenty of sites in australia that have them listed (and have done for some months now), but they're clearly marked as pre order only, so that's probably why they're still listed.

I don't know...but I guess the 3.06 was actually released to resellers & OEM mnfctr's a couple ??weeks?? ago...I emailed Ed (OC.com) and he said the "formal" announcement date is 11/14/02..he speculated that they possibly were told by Intel to pull them...I don't doubt that.

They also may have only had a few, and sold them all *shrug*

Yeah, or like I said above, they got bullied in to taking them down for now.

wow the price is double the price of the 2.8. Is it better off to to get the p 2.8 and overlock it instead of paying double the price???

Mike

You're also paying for HT aside from the speed increase with a P4 3.06Ghz. :)

that's always been the case though.

the amount you pay doesn't necessarily change.
usually it's what you get for your money that changes.

i don't have correct prices to give an example, so i'll just make them up. :p
earlier this year, it would've cost you AU$130 for a celeron 1.1A and about AU$100 for 1.0A.
now it costs AU$100 for a 1.1A and a 1.3 cost about AU$130.

so the numbers stay the same, but you get a faster product for it.

soon enough the 3.06 will come down the current price of the 2.8, and the next P4 will come out at about the same price as the 3.06.

am i making sense?? :p

About the price thing, Intel has always been pricey. It's just something I expect from them now. Anyhow, I don't know anyone, (personally), who actually BUYS the top of the line stuff, mainly because it costs so much when it is top of the line, and it all ends up being worthless after about a year anyways. You'd have to be insane to pay that much for stuff like that.....insane or very rich!
