This is very dumb, but i can't get ROTK to find its play disc. Yes, I have the real retail discs. I put in the play disc, and run it or let autorun do its thing, Arogon pops up and it reads the disk (lites flash on drive) for a while then goes, "Please insert the correct CD-ROM, select OK and restart application".

I tried the following:
Changing drive letters to first letters after HDDs
Using both drives (liteon dvd burner and liteon 52x32x52 burner)
Connecting an older dvd drive instead
Closing all running apps
REINSTALLING WINDOWS
reinstalling drivers for all

same exact freaking message. What gives? It looks at the cd and then says its wrong. Anyone having similar issues??

yep i had the same exact problem with my friends computer just a few weeks ago. after narrowing down the problem i found out it was his chipset drivers( i dont know why) but after a fresh install of windows having the game be the first thing installed it worked. then got vid drivers and it still worked then got lan drivers and it still worked then sound and it still worked but when i installed the chipset drivers. i started to get that same message. try reinstalling windows again and narrow the problem down like i had to.i hope i could help.

At first I had ruled that out cause my friend has the exact same mobo as me and he has no problems, but come to think of it, my chipset drivers are newer than his, and I did install them before the game. I have an abit NF7-S. Obviously, the current drivers don't work with ROTK. I guess I will find out which ones do then.

Thanks, I was about to just give up...

Did your friend have an Abit NF7-S or an nForce2 board as well?

I found out that the drivers that shipped with my mobo work, but the newer ones I downloaded make LOTR not work. So I was happy. Then i installed my Audigy drivers from the audigy disc and THAT made it not work again. I may have to get a nocd crack for a completely legal copy of this game...
