I just got a new NAS that only has 2x 1Gbps ports. I'm already saturating one of them with data transfers. I'm researching bonding the ports together using LAG and LACP. However, I'm lost on how this would work if I have a setup like mine. It seems you need two physical connections to the router. For me, I only have one connection but two into the L3 switch. Anyone know if this is possible to do? L3 Switch is a simple netgear business switch.

Setup:
NAS 2x Eth -> L3 2.5Gbps Switch 1x Eth -> Router
 
I don't know 100% (I haven't messed with it for a very long time), but does your switch allow for port-teaming via some sort of interface? Or is it a dumb non-manageable switch?
 
I would ask:
1. Does your NAS allow for NIC teaming?
2. Does your switch allow for port teaming?
3. Does your router allow for port teaming?
4. What NAS are we talking about anyway?

You can set NIC/port teaming on 3rd party software/NAS OS like FreeNAS or whatever is available nowadays. NAS software delivered with devices usually doesn't have this feature. At least cheaper ones typically don't.
Teaming in your local network doesn't require a router to support teaming, but setting it on a router adds protection and may help with load-balance/performance if you have a really fast internet connection.
Think about a NAS like a regular PC with 2 NICs. You set teaming, connect 2 network cables to switch, and that's all. At this point, you already have a load balance between NAS and switch. Later, if you want, you can set it on the router or other devices.
 
My NAS is a Synology 920+. It supports the feature out of the box. I've got the two cables to the switch, but I do not see increased performance. My main PC has a 2.5G, and the switch itself is a 2.5G. I figured I'd see performance increase, but so far my max data transfer is still capped at the 1G. I need to research my switch further to see if it has the ability.'

Quick research shows that the unmanged switches from Netgear do not support this feature (802.3ad LAG & LACP). I'd have to upgrade to a managed switch. Probably not a bad idea but I'll have to do it later.
