I have been experiencing some problems with my dvdrw recently, a couple of times when copying dvd's with nero, just as the copying process begins it comes up with an error and says that the copying failed, it was not on the fly and I have burned tens of discs with this drive since I bought it and have had no problems. Another problem ive experienced is extremley slow burn times, this is with burning discs from data on my hard drive and copying dvds, ive found that it can take anything from 5-20 minutes to make an image to burn and the quickest burn times I get for copying from a cd or burning data from my hd are 15-20 minutes, Im realy baffled as to what the problem is, nero sometimes reports very slow write speeds even when maximum speed is chosen. The discs im using are Verbatim DVD+R 8x Discs.

sorry for the confusing explenation its late and im tired :bang head

thnx in advance

did you try any other program? I've burned hundreds (700+) dvds with mine, and the only coaster I've had was when I burned too many in a row and the drive got too hot.

I have two in the rig and my sig, and they both had weird crashing errors when I first got them. I updated them both to the newest firmware and they've been fine since. Have you tried updating them yet?

Nope I havnt tried updating firmware, how do I go about this. Im gonna try googling it and see what I come up with

Ive been thinking about it and the speed problem may be due to a bad peformance system, the rig in my sig isnt high end my any stretch of the imagination, the speed may possibly be due to low RAM seeing as XP takes 128mb alone that leaves 128mb for all applications and the burning of the DVD, what do you think?

thnx

edit -

hmmm to many firmwares to choose from, any advice. Which did you use?

Try this (main page) there are 2 diff' firmwares and the program should update the drive from within windows. I bought a cheapo DVD+-RW drive1, (Emprex) and it played up for a bit until I updated the Firmware. Only bought it coz my CDRW drive (Antec) wore out, (yep wore out, bearings must have worn coz it couldn't write a CD at any speed)
