OK, I am ready to purchase a Duron. But I need to know what to look for when buying this CPU for best overclocking for the buck. I have read alot of articles but would like some more info. It seems alot of 600s were hitting the 1ghz mark. What simple formula should I look for? I have decided to go with the A7V mainbord for this CPU. Are all Durons overclockable with the pencil trick? Even todays CPUs? Thanks to everyone who gives advice.

All Durons and Tbirds are overclockable with the pencil trick. Good choice going with the A7V, well, you can see by my signature that I like it ;-)

The best bang for your buck is the 600. 600s are pretty much identical to the 800s and will overclock just as well. The only benefit of the 800 is knowing that it WILL do at LEAST 800. Other than that minor insurance policy, the faster chip gives you nothing.

Go for the slowest, but most economical chip available. So, for example, if the Duron 600 is $49 and the Duron 650 is $44, go with the 650, obviously. Other than that, it's just luck of the draw. Don't expect 1 GHz, despite reports 1 gig is still hard to hit. 900 MHz is a safe assumption, and if you hit that gig, it's gravy!

Thanks Nagorak,
Asus A7V and Duron 650 on their way. I appreciate everyones input!
