Hi i've just installed 2x60 gb maxtor in raid 0 well the problem is that the drives are running too hot in my opinion, i would like to know what kind of coolers suit best for hardrive cooling, i've seen some that are placed underneath the drive, other ones like a special casing that fits in a 5.25" bay...
Which ones do the job better? thx

make sure the HDDs are not rpt. NOT sandwhiched together, a fan blowing accross them should do the trick, if not, there are special Harddrive racks that have fans that blow air on them to keep them cool.

I have an antec case with 4x5.25 bays my raid hds are located in the 5.25 ones, and the plastic lids are open now to improve the airflow dunno whether would be enough, i have another wd hd running in the 3.25 bay and is not that hot.

The simple solution is to put a fan blowing on the drives. That's how it's done in servers. This method keeps my 10k and 15k SCSI drives cool. It will work fine for your Maxtors.

I've just sticked a case fan i have and put it in front of the hds on the outside of the 5.25" bays its just a temporary solution :D but it works fine they are not as hot, i'm gonna cut some carton paper with a 80mn hole for the fan and use it as my HD cooler it does the job, and since now that i don't have more money i'll just stick with it :D :D

What's yoru case temp? Mayeb you don't even have to install a hd cooler if your case temp is cool enuff
My case temp is 3C higher but is ok i'm ordering some new fans and gonna mod the case to fit the fans, :) The temp is a lil high 36 is because i live in a hot place. I have the covers off.

I did a little work and got two 80mm fans installed that take up two 5.25 slots, where my 2 HDD's are. Seems to keep them cool. Beware dust getting caked on the drives after a while though. A 120mm would fit nicely in three 5.25 bays I'd bet.

In my case the two 80mm blow across the HDDs and into my DD Cube which has a 120 on the outside of it. Works nice.
