I am tired of the HDD swapping: I am getting more ram. Trying to run this setup: p4 3.0C @ 3.6 , thermalright SLK 900U, lapped and with AS5 heat compound, Enermax case with 5 case fans, Epox 4pca3+ v 2.x. I suspect my current "generic" pc4200 is ****: it requires weird timing 3-5-5-9, which my mobo doesn't seem to support, and I can't seem to go any higher than 3.6 GHz. I can post and boot into windows, but then it does random crashes and reboots. Question: need to buy 4x512 or 2x1G ? What are the chances of running into unmatched sticks if I were to get 2x1G (that couldn't do dual memory mode)?
Thanks in advance.

I know that OCZ pc3200EB 2x1024 will run~225-230FSB and I think that is the max you will be able to get with gig sticks. I had some generic hynix bt-d43 sticks that I ran @ 4x512MB and they ran without much fuss upto 250Mhz 1:1. The thing is that going from 2x512 to 4x512 will make a big hit on the max fsb your board and memory can do...so plan for that

What I would like to do is run @ 240 fsb (3.6GHz, 1:1 for memory), but have 2G instead of 1G. I know this board can go to
280-290 fsb stock, but that's not necessary for me. Any opinions on Kingston HyperX pc4000 1G sticks? If I order two, what are the chances of getting unmatched sticks?

I think that the concensus is that the "dual-pack" of ram is more of a marketing angle than a technology based requirement. Two 1 gig sticks of the same model ram from the same manufacturer purchased at the same time from the same vendor should provide you with two "matching" sticks, unless you were unfortunate to get one stick from the vendor's old stock and another one from a new supply. Odds of that happening are slim, at best. I don't want to say it can't happen, just that it shouldn't be a major concern for you.
