My single cpu system is a self built Xp Barton 2500 at Barton 3200 speeds.
Specs:
1 gig DDR400
Asus A7N8X Deluxe 2.0
Ti4200 8x 64 meg (370 mhz gpu/730 mhz mem)
Barton 2500 @ 11x200 = 2200 mhz.

My question is, should I upgrade to DDR 500 memory Kingston HyperX or should I upgrade my video card to a 9700 pro?

Thanks a lot,

Karifan

I think that your system is fine for now. I think you should wait a few months and then upgrade. This way you can see all the new things that come out, and if you still want newer ram/video card it will be less expensive.

Yeah, faster ram isnt going to help you with that fsb but a 9700 pro will be a significant increase. If you really want to spend some money get a 9800 nonpro which goes for around $200.

The 9700pro if you have to upgrade. I'd just wait at this point in your shoes. Its a great rig from the sounds of it.

Yes like the others have said there is no point in upgrading the RAM, about the only thing you would gain from it is the potential for a higher FSB at tighter timings, witch is not justifiable of spending over 100 bucks. The graphics card is not bad either it should run most of the games out now pretty nicely, if I where you I would wait for the next generation of games to come out next year like HalfLife2 and Doom 3 and see how they run, chances are you will need an upgrade if you want to run it silky smooth and at a nice resolution, by witch time the graphics card prices should have dropped a little.

Agreed, I would just wait at this point as well. Your video card should suffice until the next gen of games. Also the next gen of video cards may be available as well at that time as well.

Hey, u guys are genius/s (cant think of the plural of the word)
The main reason I am thinking of upgrading, is bcs I have to upgrade another computer at home from pc133 to a better mobo and ram.
I was gonna stick my ti 4200 in the pc that needs to upgrade(its using onboard shared video now) and upgrade to a 9700 pro and share my ram with that pc, like 512 meg ram per computer.
Now that other pc is for my mom, I know that she wont be needing an overclocked Ti4200 or 1 gig of ram. But I wanted to upgrade her system to where she is won't need an upgrade in a long while and use that to spiff my system a bit more.

The 9700 is still a nice video card I assume, It shows support for DX9 and Open GL 2.0 (which is upgradeable with drivers)
I am thinking that the 9700 pro should last for a long time and it could probably do half life and doom3 quite well.

What do you all think? Upgrade her mobo to a better one but use shared video again? Or Give her the Ti4200 and upgrade my own, or just buy her a cheap video card and like 512 ram of pc2100.
She uses her computer for email, and office stuff. Not much video editing or gaming.
