I know i need a hard wired line for gaming and i agree with that as i play BF3 constantly and admin servers for my clan.
But i just moved to the mountains of NC and into a families home which was built around 1900 and i don't want lines run from one side of the house to my room since i just moved in. The internet is free for me to use so i dont want to ask them to upgrade or buy anything.
Ill pay for what ever is needed.

They have DSL on a wireless G modem, I can deal with the slower speeds i think its the signal quality and the lack of it most times that kills me.
I get 12%- 24% max signal strength and almost impossible to play some nights.

My first thought was to just disable the wireless signal and just use the DSL modem and plug it directly into a decent wireless N router.

But i see newegg has range extenders and repeaters that do the same job.

Ive tried a wireless N usb module just to make sure my laptops card wasn't just weak, My built in card runs faster and more stable than the N USB adapter.
So i think i just need a stronger and maybe faster signal that N wireless can give me.

They do have a phone jack in my room, Could it be cheaper just to purchase a new DSL line and then run hard wired into it? The rent is kinda high for me, But if its only like $40 a month or less i may ask. But id be afraid the line may saturate? Im a noob at networking and especially DSL. This would be my last resort due to the added cost each month, So please answer the questions above this about fixing the signal first and consider this a last resort.

You didn't mention the actual distance from your machine to the wireless modem. Nonetheless, you may have better luck with a wireless access point like this one.

Ive deployed these in many offices and have been impressed with their signal strength even at long distances (200'+) going through concrete floors and walls. They're inexpensive, reliable, powerful, scalable and easy to set up.

Id say its about 50' distance threw a few walls and up a floor.
That thing looks like a beast and about the same price as the lesser ones at newegg.
Unless i get a cheaper or better solution i cant imagine not going that route.
Thanks for the help!
