This is going to be my first real OC build. This is the components I am working with "Need help Abit NF7-S board - AMD 2500+ mobile - stick of 512 PC2700". My question is how do I actually go about overclocking it? I am not trying to get any crazy speeds. I will be happy with something decent and stable. Please let me know how to go about doing this or if you have any links with info on how to do this.

I will go over the basics.

Basically CPU speed is determined by the bus speed (166MHz for a 2500+) and a certain multiplier (varies between CPUs).

A 2500+ runs at 1833MHz usually. Thus its multiplier is 11.

To overclock we increase one or the other. As the multiplier cannot be increased, we must increase the FSB. The methodology I would suggest would be as follows:

- Reduce multiplier as low as possible, using the BIOS settings.
- Increase FSB a few MHz at a time, testing for stability until you find the highest stable FSB.
- Increase multiplier as far as is stable. 0.5x at a time.

Remember - keep an eye on temps. Under 50C is preferable, over 60C isn't good for your CPU.

If you find yourself hitting a wall, then try increasing vcore slightly to see if it helps. Remember, higher VCore = higher temps.

What he said is corect, execpt for a couple details I think.

Is is a mobile 2500+ isn't it?

I don't have a mobile and don't know for sure, but I think they have a default FSB of 133, and the multiplier is unlocked. What he said to do is still right though. Find the maximum FSB you can run, and then increase the processor. Your ram is only rated for 166mhz, so you may have to increase the voltage to it a little and loosen the timmings to go much above 166.

Also, instead of raising your cpu speed by just upping the multiplier, I like to do it a little more slowly. Lower your fsb from it's maximum and then raise the multiplier. then slowly raise the fsb back up. When your reach maximum FSB again, lower it back down and raise the multiplier again. This way you can slowly increase the cpu speed instead of going in big jumps.
