I followed the steps that were listed on the website. When I try to boot up now I get a blue screen right before windows starts loading saying that loading has been haulted to prevent damage to my computer. It goes on about if I have installed a new hardrive and to remove it and all that. Any suggestions? It's not even booting from a floppy now either. I try to boot to the flopy to go back to the old bios and it acts like there isnt even a floppy in there.

It sounds like you might have loaded an incorrect bios for your exact board. Depending on what board and what board revision, the bios versions can be different.

I would have to agree.

Could the power have been turned off during the flash???

Nope never powered off it said it flashed correctly then rebooted i set the bios to default

I pulled the battery for a while and put it back in tried to boot and same thing.

After reseting the jumper i get a cmos checksum error - defaults loaded. I hit f1 to continue and the blue screen comes back up. Any other suggestions on how to get it to boot off the foppy so I can try to load an old bios.

I try two diff HD's with Xp installed and they get a little farther. They boot through the loading screen and then hang every time.

After a few tries one of the HD's booted. Any reason why the other HD wouldnt? Is there a way to set the bios from windows somehow since it still seems the boot disk stil isnt being read on boot up.

Do a repair on your XP install. XP can be VERY finky about BIOS and hareware updates. . ESPECIALLY when it relates to the motherboard. Also if you are using some kind of RAID array you may have to repair the driver set. I have seen XP behave with this sort of thing but often I hear it does not.

Good Luck

Have you tried getting into BIOS at startup? If your machine is coming up and trying to load windows then you should be seeing the "Press DEL to enter setup" or whatever button it is for your board. Chances are that after the BIOS flash that when it set to defaults it is now not looking for the floppy drive as a boot device or at least not looking for it as the FIRST boot device. If that is the case then it won't boot off the floppy. Again, if it is not listed as the first priority boot device in BIOS then you need to set the floppy to be the first boot device and restart it.

As for where you can get another BIOS rev, did you use the option that most flash utilities give you to make a backup of your old one before flashing the new one? If yes you are set, if no, then you should be able to find an older revision than the one you currently have at the manufacturers website. Good luck.

Thanks for the suggestions. I finally got it back up. Had to just do a clean install of xp. The only reason I was updating the bios is because on the site they said they made changes to make it more OC friendly, I was hoping they'd put in where I could run at 5:4 but I can still only run at 1:1. Ah well at least it is running again I guess.
