Okie dokie...So I just installed slackware9.0 on my laptop. It's an emachines M5310. I've just spent the last little while trying to mount the combo drive. I know that the drive is /dev/hdc because that's where the installer found the cd when I was installing slackware. However, when I type mount /dev/hdc /mnt/dvd it says that I need to include a filesystem type. So I tried going with mount -t iso9660 /dev/hdc /mnt/dvd but that didn't work either.

I know that on my desktop I managed to mount the DVD drive, but that was a while back, and I don't remember what I typed to do that :(.

Little help? Please? Somebody? Anybody? I don't wanna be stuck with XP on my laptop, and I have to be able to use my drives.

dvd doesn't use iso, it's udf, at least for data. is it in your kernel?
movies you can just play (mplayer dvd://1 i think)

also /dev/dvd wont work, unless its sym-linked to the actual device

ln -s /dev/hdc /dev/dvd (not good to make too many symlink chains though)

He was mounting /dev/hdc to /mnt/dvd, which should work just fine assuming the mount point exists. I think you got a little mixed up, fiji.... ;)
