Been out of the comp scene for awhile and don't know what is the best for what $$$$$ now.

I will have a budget of about $500 for a new CPU and MB. I want an AMD cpu not Intel. I will overclock but not mod and only use air to cool. So could you guys help me out for the best price/performance?

I will be using a 6800GT and some corsair XMS 3500v1.1 mem (BH-5?).

Thanks guys.

Go 64!! I think the processor to get now days is the mobile 3000+ with the 1MB cache and CG stepping. As for a mobo the MSI Neo Plat. nForce3 250 seems popular, and go with a thermalright slk948 with a good fan for cooling purposes. However, if you can wait, i would go for pci-e:)

Thanks for the reply KKAT. :)

Does the mobile cpu work just like the normal desktop cpu? Also why mobile? For the voltage?

Thanks.

If you can clench your teeth and hold out for PCI-E...I would recommend waiting also, but that's just me... It's just that the current stuff seems to just be new versions of stuff that's been around forever - it's lost it's sparkle to me, that's why the upcoming things seem so much more alluring to me - just think about it! DDR-II, SATA-II, PCI-E, not to mention PCI-E Graphhics and the possibility of SLi, weee But if you dont care for any of the new sparkly stuff, or just cant hold out that long, go on ahead and get what the others have suggested ^_^
