changed it to compatible, with sata still selected, and it wouldnt find my ide dvdrw. I then changed it to to include PATA + SATA, and then XP setup wouldnt find my Raptor.

Beginning to think this board was a bad idea!
 
My A8N32 is back at ASUS for a simular problem. It refused to see any IDE device and the floppy worked for about 5 minutes then went intermittent. My SATA ports worked fine but it was impossible to load Windows or anything on the SATA drives without an IDE input device. I changed drives, HD and DVD/CD and nothing worked. I'm starting to wonder if there's not an issue with this latest round of tech from ASUS. Basically my southbridge inputs worked and the North didn't. That's as close as I got to a solution. I'll let you know when I hear back from ASUS.
