OK, just bought a new processor and mobo (1.2 Tbird 266, Abit kt7a) and need some help with I think are some problems. My processor after running Counter-Strike for about a half hour was at about 135F (Volcano II heatsink). I think this was quite hot however I had the case on and have no other fans other than the power supply. Also, I THINK I'm having the famous SB Live problems (SB Live X-Gamer 5.1), it works fine as far as I can tell but when booting up it says "SB16 IRQ interrupts (or something like that) with PCI IRQ". Also, my comp kicks me out of things and crashes randomly. What does anyone think...I'm pretty despirate 'cause I'm new at tweaking with the insides, so to speak. PLZ HELP!!!!!

Welcome to the forums, you are running too hot. You need at least some case fans, one sucking in and one blowing out. This could be the case for your random crashes. To possibly fix the SB problem install the newest Via4-1 drivers 3.20, you can get then at http://www.viahardware.com
Good luck

Heh, the Volcano II. You should consider replacing it if your temps don't go down after adding a few case fans. AMD recommends having a fan in the lower front of your case blowing in, and a fan exhausting in the rear by your processor

Simple question, did you use the thermal pad on the Volcano or did you use thermal compound. Thermal pads actually do a good job at keeping heat in the processor. It's great for those cold winter nights infront of the computer.

Thanks guys, that's what I thought. I haven't got on it many times due to time conflicts (I know, I know, I should spend more quality time with my computer) so I haven't noticed any real trends. But to answer the last post, yes, I left that thermal pad on the bottom and put generic grease (thinking about buying some arctic silver) onto the processor.
